How to Choose the Right Windows for Your Home

Windows are one of the most impactful upgrades you can make to your home — they affect kerb appeal, energy efficiency, security and natural light all at once. But with uPVC, aluminium, timber and sliding sash options all available, how do you choose?

Start with your home's character. Period properties — Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis, traditional cottages — tend to suit timber or sliding sash windows that respect the original architecture. Modern new-builds and contemporary extensions are well-matched to slim-profile aluminium frames, which offer large glass areas and a clean, minimal look.

uPVC remains the most popular choice for good reason: it's low-maintenance, thermally efficient, and available in a wide range of colours and finishes including realistic woodgrain effects. It suits the majority of UK homes and offers excellent value.

Think about energy performance. Look for windows with an A or A+ Window Energy Rating (WER). Double glazing is standard; triple glazing is worth considering for north-facing rooms or properties in exposed locations. A good U-value (the lower the better) indicates less heat loss.

Finally, consider security. All our windows are supplied with multi-point locking systems as standard and meet the requirements of Secured by Design where specified. If you're in an area with higher crime rates, ask about laminated glass and enhanced locking options.
